This antique flat-weave from Northwest Persia artfully blends formal Persian notions of space and proportion with folk elements from village weaving traditions in the Kurdish region of Northwest Persia (Bijaar).
A very rare find made of hand-spun wool and vegetable dye that is approximately 70 years old with a spectacular abstract colour scheme. Instead of finishing with one spool and then proceeding to the next,  the weaver has chosen to modulate the colour of the field creating bands of varying shade. This phenomenon is known in Farsi as abrash and skill in its application is a hallmark of a master weaver.
A remarkable piece for the admirer of the art form to add something special to their collection.
