This exquisitely beautiful all hand-made Persian miniature creation of two different art forms is an art work which depicts the intrinsic valuable pattern of Iranian taste and intelligence and makes a much admirable and often talked about showpiece.

The frame: Made from several different wood inlays, jade stone, ox bone, brass, and faux tortoise shell with beautiful hand painting patterns which adds more details to the frame.

The artwork: Hand cut Copper art work creation made at the Esfehan metal works production center where this art of forming metals by embossing and engraving designs on copper, brass or alloy items accompanied with the art of cutting is processed.   The back is varnished wood and on this piece there is a signature. This frame can be displayed on a flat surface.

Dimensions: 27.5 cm H X 22.5 cm W x 1.5 cm D approx.

Condition: There are a few very fine hairline scratches on the varnish on the frame work but this is not actually noticeable and I only noted it when I photographed the frame, (see images below).  This pre-owned artwork can be said to be in an excellent collectible and presentable condition.

About and how this exquisite unique Iranian art work is made:

The frame work:
Khatam (Marquetry) Marquetry: The art of decorating the surface of wooden articles by using small triangles. As much as, the fineness of these triangles and harmony of designs and figures are considered, the higher quality of Marquetry is obtained. Marquetry is the art, in which so many different materials are used, that sometimes exceeds even more than forty. Fixing the different patterns and designs on wood, such as triangular designs, is done with special care, expertise and skill of artisans, by joining various kinds of wood, bone, shell, brass and copper wires. The Marquetry, with these special features, can be exclusively attributed to Iran. This art-craft has a long history in Iran, which goes back to sixteenth century (11th century Hijri). The artisans of Shiraz were the first who began to produce the Marquetry, through by now it is produced in Esfehan as well. At present, for producing so many items, this technique is used, mostly to produce different types and sizes of frames, cigarette and chocolate boxes, stationary sets, dining room chairs and tables.

The metal work:
Firstly, to facilitate and expedite the work, a desired pot is filled by hard bitumen then, by using the traditional designs which are drawn on papers, and transferred to desired prepared metal, the work begins with shaping the main lines and continued by details to complete the work of engraving. By now, working on metals, are found and done on many items such as: trays, lanterns, samovar sets, table lamps, candle stands, buckets, vases, etc. Designs and process of work are owed to the dexterity, and creativity of mind of artisan.
