One night, on Christmas Eve, a little boy named Ruben asked his mommy where Santa lived.  Mommy explained to him that Santa lived in the Laughing Valley where his big rambling castle stood.  The toys were manufactured in this castle.  His workmen, selected from the reindeer, knooks, pixies and fairies, lived with him, and everyone was as busy as could be from one year's end to another.

“It was called the Laughing Valley because everything there was happy and gay.”  Mommy continued explaining to Ruben.  She went on to tell him that the brook chuckled to itself as it leapt between its green banks; the wind whistled merrily in the trees; the sunbeams danced lightly over the soft grass, and the violets and wild flowers looked smilingly up from their green nests. Mommy smiled at Ruben and told him:  “To laugh one needs to be happy; to be happy one need to be content. And throughout the Laughing Valley of Santa Claus contentment reigned supreme.”
