In the 1970's Peter Hain was at the forefront of the "Stop the Tours" campaign together with Dennis Brutus. Today he is Lord Peter Hain.
The South African Rugby Union (SARU) realised the potential of legal implications arising from the demonstrations and set up a fund, appealing for donations. Alex Kellerman, the SARU secretary, was tasked with this.
