Pets Choice Dried Mealworms 100g are a convenient natural insect treat for wild birds, chickens, poultry and other suitable insect-eating animals. Dried mealworms provide an easy way to add animal protein and feeding variety without the hassle of storing and caring for live feeder insects.
The handy 100g pack is ideal for occasional feeding, smaller flocks or garden bird feeders. If your feathered mob develops a serious mealworm habit, Keen Pets also stocks Pets Choice Dried Mealworms 200g and the much larger Pets Choice Dried Mealworms 5kg.
A natural insect treat
Mealworms are the larval stage of the darkling beetle and are naturally eaten by many insectivorous and omnivorous animals. Drying removes much of their moisture, creating a lightweight, shelf-stable treat that is easy to store, measure and serve.
Pets Choice Dried Mealworms 100g can be used to add variety to the diet or as a high-value reward. They are particularly useful for encouraging natural searching and foraging behaviour in birds and poultry.

Great for wild and garden birds
Mealworms make a useful addition to a garden bird feeding station, especially for species that naturally include insects in their diet. Place a small quantity in a clean feeder, feeding tray or bird table where visiting birds can reach them easily.
For a varied feeding station, offer mealworms alongside suitable seeds and other foods rather than relying on one food alone. Browse the Bird Food & Treats range at Keen Pets for seed mixes, soft foods and other treats for garden and companion birds.
A favourite treat for chickens
Chickens tend to regard mealworms less as a snack and more as currency.
Scatter a controlled amount around the run, coop or suitable outdoor area and let your chickens scratch and search for them. This turns treat time into enrichment and encourages natural foraging behaviour.
Mealworms should remain a treat or supplementary food. A nutritionally balanced poultry ration should still make up the main part of the diet so that the birds receive the correct balance of protein, energy, vitamins and minerals.
Feed dry or rehydrate
Pets Choice Dried Mealworms 100g can be offered directly from the pack or softened before feeding.
To rehydrate them, place the required quantity in warm water for a short period before serving. This produces a softer texture and adds moisture back to the dried insects.
Once soaked, treat them like fresh food. Do not leave wet mealworms sitting in a feeder for extended periods, particularly during warm weather. Remove uneaten portions before they spoil.
How to feed
- Serve a small quantity dry in a clean feeding dish.
- Scatter them to encourage natural foraging.
- Mix a controlled amount into suitable bird or poultry food.
- Use individual mealworms as an occasional high-value reward.
- Soak briefly in warm water when a softer food is preferred.
Always provide access to clean, fresh drinking water.
Not a complete diet
Dried mealworms are a supplementary food or treat, not a complete diet. Feeding very large quantities of treats can reduce the amount of nutritionally balanced food an animal consumes.
Use mealworms to add enrichment, variety and insect-based protein while continuing to feed an appropriate complete or species-specific main diet.
Choose the right pack size
Keen Pets stocks three Pets Choice Dried Mealworms pack sizes:
- 100g: Pets Choice Dried Mealworms 100g ideal for occasional feeding, smaller flocks and trying mealworms for the first time.
- 200g: Pets Choice Dried Mealworms 200g a practical size for regular garden bird or poultry feeding.
- 5kg: Pets Choice Dried Mealworms 5kg the bulk option for larger flocks, breeders, farms and regular users.
The three separate pack sizes make it easy to choose according to how many animals you feed and how quickly you use mealworms.
Storage
Store the mealworms in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and moisture. Reseal the packaging properly after opening or transfer the contents to a clean, dry container with a secure lid.
Do not feed mealworms that have become damp, mouldy, contaminated or developed an unusual smell.
