Mirror of a world championship now over, the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1992 was an extremely dull edition with only 28 cars at the start, all made even more sad by persistent rain throughout the first half of the race. Yet, despite these non-ideal conditions, Mazda and Toyota tried with all means to counter the supremacy of the Peugeot 905s, forcing them to maintain a very high race pace. It was Dalmas / Warwick / Blundell's Peugeot that won, ahead of Raphanel / Sekiya / Acheson's Toyota TS010 and another Peugeot 905, driven by Baldi / Alliot / Jabouille. Peugeot had its first success at Le Mans (it would have repeated itself in 1993 and 2009); it was also the first victory of a V10 engine and the return to success of a French manufacturer since 1980.
