An unusual item - I have searched the net and picked brains and so far nothing! - it is not a canteen as the nozzle is designed to deliver a liquid - I would guess oil?

The makers - Horton & Son Co. London were independently active 1865 onwards at the address 159 High Holborn street, London. They specialized in making moulds and tools for the ice cream industry.

It is in a very good condition, with 3 dents and a few smaller knocks, scratching from wear and use. On the front there is a horizontal scratch which shines like silver - probably recent. It is a very solid and heavy item, the design is very utilitarian  - not an ordinary ornament, rather a tool, BUT BEAUTIFUL NEVERTHELESS.

Marked Harton & Son London

Height to nozzle tip 18cm, width 12cm- weight 475gram. (Heavy for its size!)
