Phampatha, The Beloved of King Shaka - P. J. Schoeman - 1983, first edition - Timmins Publishers - 221p - One previous owner name and stamp on first page - Hardcover and dustcover in very good condition - Internally clean and tightly bound.

In the foreword by Schoeman:

Phamphata, the heroine of this book, is fully authenticated in Zulu tradition, and so is Nandi, the brave mother of Shaka. It is Shaka, the hero, who needs more sympathetic attention than he has hitherto received.

Shaka's early years are fully relived in this book. If ever it could be said of any famous man that 'the boy of today is the man of tomorrow', it can be said of Shaka.

I have written this book with the sincere hope that it will contribute to a better understanding and respect for 'the human being behind the black mask'. It is the work of many years of personal research in and around Zululand (Now KwaZulu).

Professor P. J. Schoeman was born in Northern Natal on a farm with four families of Zulus. He learnt to speak Zulu fluently as a child and therefore found no difficulty researching Shaka's childhood among the old men of Zululand.
