Small format photograph album kept by Annie Augusta Jeffreys, 19051914.
Annie Augusta Barton (18621938) was born to Montagu and Sarah Barton in East London, British Kaffraria. In 1889, she married Frederick Vaughan Jeffreys in Hampshire. Together, they had a son, Montagu Vaughan Cashelman Jeffreys (19001985). Frederick Vaughan Jeffreys (18601944) was an officer in the Royal Engineers. He took part in the China Expedition in 190001 and was mentioned in Despatches, winning a medal with clasp. He was gazetted a Lt-Colonel in January 1905, arriving in South Africa later that year, accompanied by his wife and little son. He appears to have been posted to Middelburg, Cape Colony, and presumably was involved in reconstruction work following the South African War, 18991902.
Most of the images relate to South Africa, 19051907. Later ones relate to the family home in England.
