"This picture represents Edwin Henry Landseer R.R. when modelling the style of lion to be placed at front corners of Nelson's Monument which stands in Trafalgar Square - where the two fountains play so beautifully - The National Gallery faces into the Sq - The Portrait Gallery - just round the corner - in which Gallery This Picture can be seen - So I bought this in remembrance of my visit to the Portrait Gallery, with Miss Mary Wingate - June 11th 1903 - a very wet day."
