Extract from Editors' notes: Photography Year 1978/79
"A nostalgic interest in old photographs and old ways of making new photographs were two aspects of the same trend that dominated photography in 1977. In Italy. a broad panorama of 19th and early-20th Century art and life was re-created in an exhibition of works by a family of Florentine photographers. The Art Deco art and advertising photographs of Paul Outerbridge were re-discovered, and Americans got an opportunity to see an exhibition of pre-World War I European masterpieces from the superlative private collection of Parisian bookstore proprietor André Jammes. A taste for the past was also evident on the collecting scene. "
