PIAGETS THEORY OF INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT: AN INTRODUCTION
by Herbert Ginsburg and Sylvia Opper

Condition: Good. Light rubbing to cover, mild edgewear; lightly toned. Name inscription.

About the Book
Since its first publication in the early 1970s, this lucid introduction has become a cornerstone text for understanding Jean Piagets theories of cognitive development. Ginsburg and Opper present a clear, ordered synthesis of Piagets central ideas the stages of intellectual growth, the mechanisms of assimilation and accommodation, and the genetic epistemology underlying the process of knowledge formation.

Structured as both exposition and guide, the book begins with a concise biography of Piaget and then examines his major studies with infants, children, and adolescents. The authors not only summarise Piagets original research but also situate it within the broader empirical and educational context, clarifying both its influence and its limitations. Each chapter includes a summary and visual aids (tables and line drawings), making the book an ideal interpretive bridge between Piagets own dense writings and contemporary psychological and educational discourse.

About the Authors
Herbert Ginsburg, Professor of Psychology and Education at Columbia University, specialised in cognitive development and mathematical learning. Sylvia Opper was an influential educational psychologist whose work brought developmental theory into practical classroom application.
