A superb pewter wall plate depicting Johannes Gutenberg (who is credited with the invention of movable type for printing) and the various processes involved in the early days of printing from movable type. Gutenberg is shown in the centre, and the figures around the side include the typemaker, the typesetter, the paper maker, the printer and the book binder.
I can't identify the fish mark with "ASN" but Internet research suggests that the plate was made in Ansbach, Germany. The overall condition is good but there are some minor dents and scratches, including a small dent on the edge at 12 o'clock. Diameter 256 mm.
