Book Review

This bible study is for all ages (in the new testament video clip I go into more detail about ages). The Old Testament is preferable to do after the new testament, mainly because of the content which it is covering. In our opinion, its just more appropriate for younger children, though its also fine to do if the family so chooses.

I have expanded on the workings of Picture Smart in the new testament clip, but let me just give you some results and examples because its really quite phenomenal.

If I ask you about the book of Leviticus, you might say Its in the old testament but do you know what its about? You might be able to give me some sort of idea, and maybe some theologians could give a lot more. But even theologians that have used this Bible study with their family have been absolutely amazed at the comprehensive overview that it brings. It just brings everything together so beautifully. Think about Leviticus for a moment

Now let me show you what results when a student has done this course. The parent has been reading the summary to them (as shown in the new testament video clip) which has resulted in a picture that they have drawn, coloured, and written on. In the centre of the page, they have the priest, on the left, there are the sacrifices, on the right is a list of the feasts and festivals. At the bottom of the page, they have obedience and disobedience with the quote When My people obey, they produce peace, power and My Presence is there. When my people disobey there is terror and no peace.

So as you can see, Picture Smart is pictorial and leaves an image in your mind. Its like photographs of each book of the Bible. If you think about that picture of Leviticus mentioned earlier, you will immediately have that picture in your mind. Hence, you have an overview of the effectiveness of Picture Smart.

The manuals contain all the tools necessary for you to conduct an exciting Bible class or self-study. The easy to follow commentary for each Bible book has clear, simple instructions for completing the drawings and Scripture reading. Use the Master Art Illustration as your guide while the student works through the grey lined student workbook.

As your children complete the pictures, they are creating images in their memories that help them to remember the main themes of each book in the Bible. Our family has been very impressed with the way that our children have been able to remember what the main themes of each book are, as well as being able to remember which book to look in, and where to find a particular event.

Can I Use the Junior and Senior levels Together?

1. The Junior Picture Smart was designed to be used with the Senior Picture Smart materials. It does take a little extra time to show younger ones what to do on the Student Sheet but is definitely worth the few extra minutes. The concepts illustrated in the Junior version are a simplified match to those illustrated in the Senior material.
2. The parent section of the Senior Picture Smartbooks can be used with the Junior excerpt; There is no discussion in the Senior levels of crafts which are used extensively in Junior levels.
3. If you read the text verbatim, you could start the older students on a graphic and then read the text (which is very limited at the Junior level) to younger children.
4. Although the pictures in both relate to the same concepts, the illustrations are different. For younger children, they are much simpler with the addition of crafts.

So the answer is, YES, older and younger children can work on the same lesson at the same time while using Senior and Junior Picture Smart.
