These are Italian pimento peppers.  They are tomato-like in appearnce, with thick delicous meat walls.  They peppers will start out green, and eventually ripen to a beautiful deep red colour.  The flavour is mild, with a little bit of pepperness to them.  These are an heirloom vegetable, open pollinated  These peppers are suitable for many uses.  They can be pickled, used in a salad, filled with a delicious filling, on a braai, or you can fry them, as you would for other peppers.  They are compact plants, that bear fruit prolifically.   A very interesting vegetable to enjoy

They are also know by a number of other names, Peperone, pimento type, tomato-peppers.
