The Pineapple Dracaena, or Dracaena compacta, is a sculptural houseplant with tightly packed, glossy green leaves that spiral from a central stem. Its tidy growth habit makes it ideal for desks, corners, or any space needing calm, structured greenery all without demanding much in return.
Commonly known as: Pineapple Dracaena, Dracaena Compacta
Botanical name: Dracaena deremensis 'Compacta'
Pineapple Dracaena is a small-space dream. With its dense rosettes of shiny green leaves and slow, upright growth, this plant brings instant polish to a room without asking for much care. It's nicknamed "Pineapple Dracaena" for its tidy, top-heavy silhouette that resembles a pineapple top but with none of the mess.
This variety of Dracaena deremensis is far more compact than the usual cane-style dracaenas, growing slowly and staying narrow, which makes it perfect for desks, bathrooms, or any low-light nook that needs a touch of lush foliage. Its clean lines and architectural structure make it especially popular in office environments and modern interiors.
Tolerant of neglect, forgiving in low light, and virtually pest-resistant, this is one of those plants you can forget to water and it'll still look good.
Light:
Prefers medium to low indirect light. Bright indirect light will encourage healthier, more vibrant growth, but it does very well in dimmer conditions too. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can burn the leaves.
💧 Water:
Let the soil dry out at least halfway before watering again. These plants are drought-tolerant and will bounce back from the occasional missed watering. In winter, water even less frequently.
🌱 Soil:
Use a loose, well-draining mix. We recommend our Aroid Mix, or blend your own using Barks Unlimited Potting Soil with added Perlite and Bark Chips for improved drainage.
🌡 Temperature:
Thrives between 1826°C. Keep away from heaters, cold windows, and aircons to avoid leaf tip damage.
🌸 Fertiliser:
Feed every 46 weeks during the growing season with a balanced organic fertiliser. Hold off in winter when growth slows.
💦 Humidity:
Normal room humidity is fine, but the tips may brown in dry air. If needed, group with other plants or use a pebble tray to raise humidity gently.
