Pinus armandii Bonsai Seeds

Pinus armandii commonly known as Chinese White Pine originates from Central and Western China, also Southern Japan. It is an evergreen tree, growing to 20 meters or more in the wild. Its bark is blackish brown to greyish red brown, shallowly cracked or sometimes irregularly fissured, covered by thin and small scales. The bark on young stems is greyish brown, thin and smooth. The leaves are deep green on the dorsal surface, pale greenish white with 2 stomatal bands on ventural surface.

This one is darker green than the Japanese variety and much hardier. It is in flower in June, and the seeds ripen in October. The flowers are monoecious, individual flowers are either male or female, but both sexes can be found on the same plant. It bears unique thin green cones. The tree prefers light sandy and medium loamy soils, requires well-drained soil and can grow in nutritionally poor soil. The tree prefers acid and neutral soils. It requires dry or moist soil and can tolerate drought. Requires sun, it cannot grow in the shade.
