NB! - The region lock affects which PSN accounts can log in on the console. This console is locked to Mainland China so you cannot access the PlayStation store or play online games without the work around outlined below. You can still play offline games from disc if you do not implement the workaround.

This console is region locked to Mainland China. Because of this the X and O buttons are switched around in the system software. This is easily changed in the PS4 user settings.
You cannot play local region Blu-ray and DVD movies on this console. There is no way around this that I am aware of.
You cannot log into a Non-Chinese PSN account without the below workaround. If you do not implement the below workaround you will not be able to play online or access the PlayStation store.
I implemented the below workaround using the latest Sony firmware, 12.50, on both the source and target PS4's. I have disabled system updates on the region locked PS4 since I do not know if future updates may break this workaround. I doubt it since this workaround has been available for many years across many Sony updates, but there are no guarantees.
The workaround is as follows:
- Create an user on another PlayStation 4 that isn't region locked.
- Log into your South African PSN account with this newly created user.
- Make a backup of your user to a flash drive using the built in PS4 backup and restore tool.
- On the region locked PS4 restore this user from the flash drive using the built in PS4 backup and restore tool.
- On the region locked PS4 Log into your South African PSN account on the user profile restore in above step.
- On the region locked PS4 go to Settings --> Account Management and activate the PS4 as your primary console.
- You can now download and play games from the South African PSN Store and play online games with your PSN account with no issues.
I WILL REMOVE MY ACCOUNT FROM THIS CONSOLE SO YOU WILL NEED TO COMPLETE THE ABOVE WORKAROUND WITH YOUR OWN PSN ACCOUNT.
I have attached a photo of me logged into my PSN account with this console as well as playing an online match of PUBG to show that it works. You can also Google the above work around, it's widely known, and used, without issue.
