Manufacturer: Made in Italy by Gino Ruggeri. Stamped G. R. on base at rear of statue.
Info:
Reproduction of the statue of Paolina Borghese by Antonio Canova (1757-1822) which is in the Galleria Borghese, Rome.
Paulina Borghese was the sister of Napoleon. She commissioned Canova to immortalize her posing as Venus, as she holds in her left hand the "Victorious Apple", the prize awarded by the city of Paris to the most beautiful woman.
This fine statuary is created by reconstituting real Carrara marble (approximately 70% marble and 30% resin). Natural off-white finish.
Gino Ruggeri is one of the most well-known sculptors in Italy, he worked many years for Tito Bianchi in their Factory in Tuscany. He developed a means of mixing alabaster with resin to make it more durable and waterproof. The Santini Family bought the rights to re-produce Gino Ruggeri's pieces in 1987.
Resin & Alabaster Carvings & statues before the purchase of the rights to Ruggeri's work have greater value.
