Poetry 99, Twenty South African Poets in Performance.1999, with DVD, Timbila Poetry Project, softcover, 120 pages, condition: as new.

Poetry 99 (a book with DVD) presents the best of a week-long series of live readings by South African poets that took place in Grahamstown in 1999. Even in their written form, many South African poems carry the intonations of the poet's voice, but seeing and hearing poets reading their own work has a particular vitality. Poetry 99 is a valuable resource for poets, readers, and teachers of poetry. The 20 poets featured are: Robert Berold * Vonani Bila * Ingrid De Kok * Alan Finlay * Richard Fox * Louise Green * Colleen Higgs * Allan Kolski Horwitz * Nosipho Kota * Jethro Louw * Joan Metelerkamp * Isabella Motadinyane * Ike Mboneni Muila * Siphiwe ka Ngwenya * Mxolisi Nyezwa * Donald Parenzee * Lesego Rampolokeng * Dudu Saki * Kelwyn Sole * Anna Varney. The introduction is by Mxolisi Nyezwa, who grew up in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth, where he still lives. He runs a shop and business support service from a steel container in Motherwell township. He is founder and editor of the cultural magazine Kotaz, now in its 14th year. His own poetry collections include Malikhanye (2011), Song Trials (2000), and New Country (2008). From 1989 to 1999, Robert Berold edited the poetry journal New Coin, publishing much of the groundbreaking new poetry being written in South Africa in the 1990s. He has edited over 20 collections of poetry by various South African poets, as well as the anthology of 90s poetry. It All Begins and a book of interviews with poets South African Poets on Poetry, both published by UKZN Press. He is the publisher of the poetry press Deep South.
