Offered for sale is a striking and unusual porcelain beaker/vase by acclaimed South African studio potter Barbara Erni. This is a hand thrown porcelain vase with a cylindrical shaped tapering slightly to a flat round base and foot ring. The vase is decorated with a hand cut fretwork openwork motif resembling the profile of a scoop . spade or spatula. The vase is glazed in a pale buttercup yellow and is signed on the base with the artists initials incised into the body of the clay. Barbara Erni was born in Germany and educated at Wits Tecknikon where she studied Ceramic Science and technology. She is known for her elegant modernist and understated designs of vases and bowls in porcelain as well as her sophisticated glazing techniques particularly her use of crystalline glazes.
