Bright and charming model of a car with strong South African connections. Gijs van Lennep brought the orange Dutch national liveried Porsche 906 to South African in the late 1960s to successfully contest the Springbok Trophy sportscar series. (See the pictures of the car at Bulawayo race track and grainy B&W photos from Killarney track!)
Van Lennep went on to win Le Mans twice in Porsches.
The Porsche 906 was a very successful sportscar worldwide and set the template for future Porsche racecars. It routinely won the 2-litre class and its greatest day was at Le Mans in 1966 when 906s finished 4-5-6-7 behind the winning Ford GT40s.
A wonderful Minichamps model of a historically important Porsche with opening doors and engine cover showing the flat-6 engine.
Discontinued/not-in-stock and now very hard to find, this is a collector's model of a successful, interesting and pretty car and relevant to any SA collection.
In superb condition and supplied in its original box also excellent condition.
From my private collection.
