After years of historical research the author, wife of Dr. E.G.Malherbe, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Natal, describes by means of vividly illustrated vignettes interesting events dating from the earliest days (as far back as 700 B.C.) when Durban's land-locked bay was probably visited by venture some seaman, up to the present time.
