Offered for sale is a large ceramic wall plate modelled in high relief with incredible naturalistic details depicting a lobster in the centre of the platter surrounded by shellfish seaweed and kelp. The piece is unmarked by was most probably made in Portugal in the second half of the 20th Century. The style is typical of the ceramic pieces made by Calda Da Rainha or Pinheiro. This style of ceramic platter decoration is known as Palissy Ware named after the French 16th Century ceramicist Bernard Pallisy who first produced decorative ceramic platters, hyper- real and cast from small animals, reptiles and plants material. Pallisy Ware was mostly produced in Europe, France, Portugal and Italy .
