This is one of the first items from a Postal History collection from a well known philatelist. All pieces are of very high quality, are scarce or rare and should be good investment pieces. If we get a good response to them locally, we will try to keep on selling them in the SA market, otherwise we will have to put them on the global market.
This auction is for two items. The first is an embossed half penny postage cover with a very interesting FB diagonal line cancellation - addressed to the National Assurance Company in San Francisco, California. The second is a Postcard with a violet one penny stamp cancelled at Bedford on 3 February 1897 with an arrival CDS in San Francisco on 16 February 1897. All the more amazing when post from Johannesburg to Cape Town seems to take longer than this in 2013! Rear contains details of a publication called 'The Artist'.
