This is one of the first items from a Postal History collection from a well known philatelist. All pieces are of very high quality, are scarce or rare and should be good investment pieces. If we get a good response to them locally, we will try to keep on selling them in the SA market, otherwise we will have to put them on the global market.
Front of this cover shows black circular mark for 15 June 1831 as well as an oval mark for noon on June 15 1831. The back has the address 'Bagshot' and is hand signed with an initial and I would imagine a 2 pennies payment.
The top of the letter has an embossed mark with Bath and a three feather symbol. The letter itself is beautifully written in copperplate and is dated the 14th June 1831. It is an appeal for the addressee, the writer's landlord, to be patient in waiting for his rental payment 'I received your letter and am sorry that I am so far behind with my rent but if you will so kind enough as to wait until the end of July I will pay it.'
The Letter is in near perfect condition - remarkable for the fact that it is 182 years old!
