19 May 1918 = Nagasaki. Laid down at Mitsubishi Zosen Kaisha as a 9,480-ton passenger-cargo ship as yard no. 271 for the Osaka Shosen Kaisha (OSK) Line.
30 March 1919 = Launched and named ARABIA MARU.
30 April 1919 = Completed. Fitted with three continuous decks, she can accommodate 42 1st Class and 314 (later 125) 3rd Class passengers and carries a crew of 105 men plus 11,500 tons of cargo. Her coal capacity is 2,700 tons.
Placed in service on OSK’s Hong Kong ~ Japan ~ Tacoma route. ARABIA MARU carries many immigrants to the Pacific Northwest.
1924 = ARABIA MARU’s engines are converted from coal to oil-fired.
Condition = AV (see detailed grading below) Some pinholes & wear to the card.
VG = Very Good = Corners may be just a bit blunt or rounded. Almost undetectable crease or bend that does not detract from overall appearance of picture side. May be writing or postally used on address side. A very collectible card.
G = Good = Corners may be noticeably blunt or rounded with noticeably slight bends or creases. May be postally used or writing on address side. Less than VG.
AV = Average = Creases and bends more pronounced. May be writing in margins on picture side. Postmark may show through from address side but not on main portion of picture. Corners more rounded.
