PLATON: PORTRAITS OF POWER
by Platon
Introduction by David Remnick - Editor of The New Yorker Magazine
A stunnning and extraordinary photography book of political power. Platon is the staff photographer of the New Yorker Magazine.
In New York, over five days in September 2009, the photographer set up a small studio just outside the United Nations building's green room to photograph as many heads of state as possible as they were due to address the general assembly.
Over 110 photographs are included in this amazing collection, although only four are women. Up close and personal are such titans as Barack Obama plus a diverse group of dictators, such as Mugabe, Gaddafi, Ahmadinejad and Presidents and Prime Ministers - Silvio Berlusconi, Vladimir Putin, Nick Clegg and Michelle Bachelet included.
The eyes are supposedly the 'windows of the soul' and as we gaze into the worlds of heroes, tyrants and revolutionaries we are reminded that every portrait tells a story, some chilling.
This is a truly ambitious project. Platon is a very intuitive photographer, and the result is both captivating and compelling.
