Pow'r Pitch makes cricket batting practice easy and fun!

PowrPitch, is a batting training system used to train young cricketers to improve their eye-hand coordination and batting skills. It can also be used as a fun, outdoor game with friends or the whole family.

Components:

  1. A cricket practice ball (not a hard cricket ball), with an embedded, string loop for attachment of an elastic cord.
  2. A mat (1m x 0.5m) made of artificial grass turf, with a tow-strap, to which an elastic cord is attached.
  3. A 6m length of elastic cord, one end of which is tethered to the embedded string loop of the ball, and the other end to the tow strap of the mat.

How it works:

  1. The Pow'r Pitch mat is placed on a level surface in an open area outdoors with tow-strap facing in direction from which the ball will be bowled (pitched).
  2. A Batsman stands on the mat facing in the direction from which the Bowler will pitch the ball. The weight of the Batsman provides the anchoring for the tensioning of the elastic cord.
  3. A Bowler holds the ball in hand and walks backwards, away from the Batsman, until the tension in the elastic cord is enough to deliver the ball at the desired speed and skill level of the batsman.
  4. The ball is then released and pitched to the Batsman. The tension in the elastic cord results in the ball travelling towards the Batsman with a speed and direction based on the tension in the elastic cord and the manner in which it is released.
  5. Two pitching methods can be used once the Batsman is ready to hit the ball. The underarm pitch (Fig. 1) or overarm pitch (Fig. 2).

Important features of the Large Pow'r Pitch Mat:

  1. The Large Pow'r Pitch mat is specifically designed for use in training a more experienced batsman.
  2. The elastic cord is 6m long. When stretched, the Bowler can deliver the ball from a distance of up to 15m away from the bastman. Do not overstretch the elastic as this can result in a very high speed ball!
  3. The batsman must be ready to hit the ball before the bowler releases it.
  4. The batsman has to gain confidence first, in order to safely hit the ball with speed and distance of the delivery.
  5. If at any point the Batsman is nervous that the cord has been stretched too far, the Batsman can simply step off the mat. The stretch in the cord  will immediately be reversed and it will not be possible to pitch the ball.

Important safety notes:

  1. Before using Pow'r Pitch, be aware that the longer the stretch of the elastic cord, the faster the speed of the ball.
  2. The batsman must be ready to hit the ball before the bowler releases it.
  3. The Bowler must initially pitch the ball to the Batsman with NO stretch in the cord to let the Batsman gain confidence in hitting the ball first.
  4. The cord can then gradually be stretched further, until both Batsman and Bowler can judge the speed and bounce of the ball.
  5. For an inexperienced Batsman, there is no need to stretch the cord. The ball can be pitched lightly to the Batsman who can then hit the ball without being nervous.
  6. The weight of the Batsman's body anchors the elastic cord to the Pow'r Pitch mat. Do not use any other object or attachment method to try and anchor the mat or cord.
  7. The Bowler must not pitch the ball before the Batsman is ready as the ball could hit the batsman and cause pain or injury.
  8. Do not stretch the cord to its maximum as this will damage the cord and may lead to snapping and or injury.
  9. The Pow'rPitch must be securely packed away after use, out of reach of young children, to prevent possible entanglement in the cord.
