Hardcover with price-clipped DJ.  Nelson 1964. 214 pages.

" Briefly this is the story of a young school teacher, from the day he acquires his diploma, through his first years of work in the isolated one-room farm schools of the Northern Transvaal bushveld. It is a poignant story and one full of humanity and understanding. The strange individuals inhabiting this almost lost world of thorn trees are beautifully drawn. Their hopes and disappointments are are things which the depth of the  writing compels us to share. The haunting personality of Daleen; and the men and women who people this story, some bigoted, some as wild as the landscape around them, are destined to be long remembered in the literature of Southern Africa."

The DJ has some nicks to edges. Previous owners name on ffep and there is the odd mark here and there but generally in not bad condition for its age. It is tightly bound.
