According to Hern’s Handbook on the Medallions of the Zuid-Afrikaanche Republiek and the Anglo-Boer War this large medal (crown size) is the earliest of the commemorative medals in honour of the President’s 75th birthday on October 10th 1900.

On this occasion the President was in Lourenco Marques awaiting the arrival of the Gelderland to transport him to Europe.

This huge medal (39.35 mm in diameter) catalogues at R1300.00 in bronze, but must surely carry a premium for its exceptional condition.
