A Medal to Commemorate the Opening of the Railway Line from Beaufort West to Bloemfontein in 1890. The obverse shows FW Reitz, President of the Orange Free State. The line was extended to reached Johannesburg in 1892, thus linking Cape Town with Johannesburg. This medal is scarce. Reference: AM 38; www.southafricanmedals.com No. 0246.

White metal.  Diameter 38.3 mm. Mass 16.7 gm.
