SHORT DESCRIPTION

Original Pretoria Regiment (Princess Alices Own) cap badge featuring springbok emblem and full unit title on scroll.

FULL DESCRIPTION

This item is a cap badge from the Pretoria Regiment (Princess Alices Own), an armoured infantry regiment of the South African Army.
The badge features a springbok antelope, symbolising the Magaliesberg region north of Pretoria, where the regiment was first formed. The scroll carries the full title Pretoria Regiment Princess Alices Own.
This specific design was worn between approximately 1930 and 1961, including the World War II period. The regiment was renamed in honour of Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, who became its Colonel-in-Chief in 1930. During WWII, the regiment formed part of the 6th South African Armoured Division, serving in operations in Madagascar and later Italy.
