This gorgeous vintage piece is crafted in 9ct yellow gold, featuring an oval-faceted Sky Blue topaz in a cathedral setting, framed by a ruff of 12 single-cut 0,14ct diamonds, claw set in white gold. The colour of the topaz is just magnificent, offset by the bright sparkle of the diamonds, both against the warmth of the rich, yellow gold. The narrow band shank follows the cathedral setting, the extension of the shank bearing a single, inset diamond on either shoulder. Openwork beneath the gemstones allows light through to maximise sparkle and enhance colour. The piece weighs a good 2,3 grams, and bears a number of hallmarks: 375 indicating 9ct gold, the Birmingham Assay mark, and the jeweller's signature and the date mark for 1990. Dainty in appeal but sturdy in the gold shank. I have had the piece assessed and valued by an independent jeweller at R14'000; a certificate to that effect will accompany the ring.
