Prey was pitched as a project over ten years ago, but was passed over for more interesting work at the time. The premise was resurrected from the idea of using the Doom 3 engine and believed to be the perfect fit for this type of gameplay, namely FPS. Most gamers realize the danger of using the Doom 3 engine again, after seeing the results of Quake 4 and many believed Prey to be just another run-of-the-mill game.

You begin the game as a bitter Cherokee Indian named Tommy, who rejects the acceptance of his tribe's heritage or what his grandfather tries to teach him about Indian ways. Tommy wants to leave town with his girlfriend, Jen who is reluctant to go. The three are drinking in a bar one night when strange lights appear in the sky and they soon find themselves being sucked into the air by the tractor beam of an alien space ship. When the three of them regain consciousness, they are all being pulled through the spaceship in a kind of alien assembly line, but a group of abducted rebels bomb a section of the ship and Tommy is freed. He must now make his way through the spaceship to save his grandfather and girlfriend...
