Prince - The Hits / The B-Sides 3 CD Box

You can quibble about the track selection (and the editing of songs), you can argue about the running order (redefines the word "random"), you can question whether you need an entire disc of B sides. What you can't argue with is the sheer quality of the music. For a time -- roughly 1980-1987 -- Prince was so far ahead of the pack he might as well have been running the race alone, and this is a fine distillation of one of the greatest careers in modern music. (It's also the only Prince compilation that works, because it's the only one given the space to showcase his entire range.) And some of the B sides -- "Erotic City", "Girl", "Another Lonely Christmas" and the wonderful "Scarlet Pussy" -- should have been As. - Rate Your Music review
