First edition of this classic and humorous South African tale of government corruption in the days of the old Transvaal Republic.
Published by Dunbar Bros., 1899.
Author's name (Douglas Blackburn) not mentioned in the first edition. Blackburn was a journalist colleague of General Ben Viljoen.
Binding is limp as some stitchings in the gatherings have come loose. Perhaps this copy can be recased.
The first edition is a rarity as the government at the time attempted to buy all available copies for the purpose of destroying them.
