This paper disk is impregnated with the chemicals found in bushfire smoke, as well as components found to help Proteas, Strelitzia's and Restios germinate. When you soak seeds in a solution of these chemicals you recreate conditions similar to the start of the rainy season after a fire. This triggers germination. If you have bought seeds then don't go home without this! Essential for Protea, Strelitizia and Restio seeds and recommended for most Cape Fynbos seeds.
