Original Game + Booklet
This is football 2002 was undoubtedly one of the PS2 greatest football games, taking graphics, game play and shear features to a whole new level.
Some may say that the likes of ea's FIFA, ISS and PES are the only football titles to look at when even thinking about purchasing a new football game. But why go for a game that is rehashed, updated and basically the same game in a different box. When there is an alternative and that is This is football 2003.
The 'This is football' back story is one of leaps and bounds, the range has always been known for outstanding graphics, arcade playability and a sheer classic game.
Unlike the games as for mentioned above 'this is football' uses the previous version TIF2002 as the building blocks for the new game, removing the negatives which didn't help the game and improving refining the points that made it outstanding, while throwing in new features that make the game standout from the competition and TIF 2003 certainly does that.
Presentation
TIF2003 is slick to the extreme, the menus are polished and professional witch are simple navigate, from menu to in game the menus are free flowing and smooth, with minimal stuttering and jurkeyness.
8/10
Graphics
With the majority of the footballing world represented in true photo realistic graphics, along with all the worlds major stadiums looking better than they do in real life.
So watch while you get TV realistic replays, statistic popups and the fourth official flashing the injury time board at the end of each half.
9/10
Sounds
TIF2003 doesn't have the pop music that the likes of ea's fifa does but the sounds that count aren't the ones that are played as background music in the menus, the sounds that count during the match, the crowd atmosphere, the players shouts and calls, the referees whistle and the melodic sound of Peter Drury.
8/10
Playability
TIF2003 covers all bases with the level of skill from the default level of armature which even if this is your 1st game you will win, to the dizzy heights of master class which will be a challenge even for the hardened gamers out there.
Whether you want a quick four minutes game or a fully 52 game season TIF2003 has it all.
9/10
Lastability
This game has some serious legs, with the season and career mode this game will last as long as you want it to and with many many extras and secrets to find, this is a game to grow old with.
10/10
Best Bits
+ The Transfer Market
+ The Best commentary in any football game
+ Career mode
+ Photo realistic faces
+ Challenge mode
Worst Bits
- Limited Camera angles
- Commentary still far to repetitive, dispute what I've said above.
- Slightly long loading time.
Overall
Improving on a game such as TIF2002 in the wrong hands would have just been new team rosters and team kits, but in the hands of London Studio and Sony this game is far most than improving an already absolute essential football game.
With the introduction of the Career mode, where you take a school team and guide them through the leagues winning cups and championships on your way to top league domination, and the addition of transfers to the season mode makes the whole season play more like the franchise mode from the Madden games. Not since the days of Sensible world of soccer have you been able to transfer players and control your team in such an addictive way. If you're a true football fan then you will already have this game.
