Hardcover published by George Routledge & Sons, undated, but the earliest of two gift inscriptions on the first end-paper is 1892. The second is in much larger letters in what appears to be wax crayon, dated Christmas 1926. The boards are worn, scuffed and marked, with chipping to the edges. There is a 3cm x 1cm part of the spine covering missing at the top of the spine, likely insect damage. There is a narrow strip the length of the boards torn from the rear board, that contains many advertisements for various Victorian products. There is a crack to the bindings of the inside front and rear boards, exposing the netting. The first and last few pages are foxed / spotted, and all pages are generally aged / tanned, and appear a bit brittle. There is a small tear to page 16, and several other small spots and marks to some of the pages, but the text remains clear and legible throughout.
