Although the fruit of Solanum integrifolium commonly called pumpkin on a stick or ornamental eggplant looks like a cross between a tiny pumpkin and a ribbed tomato, the plant is actually an heirloom eggplant variety. It has the same growth requirements as traditional eggplant, including the importance of starting the seeds roughly eight weeks before the last expected frost to give the plants a long, warm growing season. Other common names include Pumpkin Tree, Pumpkin Bush, Ornamental Eggplant, Hmong Eggplant, Mock Tomato, Japanese Golden Eyes and Chinese Scarlet Eggplant.
