The Fruit is a round drupe (plum) about 1" in diameter.
Sweet and edible; maturing in mid-summer.
Bark is Shiny smooth and dark purple at first with small horizontal lenticels, roughening with age with small vertical cracks and enlarging brown lenticels.
The reddish-purple leaves are the attraction to this plant along with the showy white spring flowers. The leaves maintain their color most of the year.
