The wire is copper and is simply wrapped around the crystal - it can be removed very easily so that you can make your own hanger if you wish.

This crystal is Activation Quartz (also known as a Window Crystal or Time Portal Crystal) as it has a little diamond shaped window to the left side of the main face.  According to crystal lore, this is a useful crystal to stimulate left brain thought... so it may stimulate logical, objective and analytical thinking... and it may help to remove energy blockages within the opposite or right side of the body.
