Where and how can you store all the digital photographs that result from using a professional scanner such as Creo , Heidelberg, Fuji-Lanovia, or any good drum scanner?

Quantum, one of the top three original equipment manufacturers of hard disks, recently bought up the innovative Snap system. Quantum found the Snap system do good that it simply purchased the entire company.

Snap had developed a clever system for storing lots of Gigabytes on a system that simply plugged into your network. Thus this hard drive storage was instant. Now Quantum has added more features and turned this Snap concept into a RAID system. You get RAID levels 0, 1, and 5, the most commonly used RAID levels.

The Snap storage system comes in three sizes (two of which are pictured here). I prefer the rack of three model 4000's (pictured above, right). If you use a large format digital scan back or a Creo or other pre-press scanner you generate enough digital files to need this kind of system.

The main advantages of the Snap system is that it is easy to use. Any professional photographer can add a Snap to their in-house computer system (Mac, PC, Linux, or UNIX). You do not need to hire a computer technician to help you out. Just plug into the system, follow the easy instructions, and suddenly you have lots of on-line storage.
