QUEEN VICTORIA CHOCOLATE TIN
These tins contained small chocolate bars and were given to all British troops serving in the Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902) as a gift from Queen Victoria for New Year 1900.
This tin was the one received by my grandfather Robert Brinkworth, (1876-1939) who served in the Durban Light Infantry in that war. As a child in the 1950s I remember that it still contained some pieces of chocolate, wrapped in silver paper. Later, my father kept his stamp hinges in it.
The tin is in fair condition, considering the fact that it is now 120 years old.
