  • HINDS George Henry: Born c. 1853; Resided Tarkastad; Second Anglo-Boer War; Conductor attached to the Royal Field Artillery in Ladysmith; Enlisted (Tarkastad) 9.1.01; Quarter Master Sergeant, Gorringe's Flying Column; Operations in the Cape Colony; Re-enlisted 22.4.01; Discharged (Time expired) 5.11.01; Enlisted 16.1.02; 'C' Squadron, Queenstown District Mounted Troops; He was recorded to have been attached to the District Office at Queenstown.  Note: He is believed to be the same 'George Henry Hinds' that served as a Lieutenant in the Queenstown Volunteer Contingent in the Ninth Frontier War 1877-78 and as a Quarter Master Sergeant in the Cradock Burghers in the Basuto Gun War 1880-81.
