  • This is a 1 Rand coin from South Africa, minted in 1967.
  • Here's a bit of history about it:
  • Introduction:
  • The 1 Rand coin was introduced in 1967, replacing the South African pound which was used before the country became a republic in 1961.
  • Design:
  • The obverse of the coin features a bust of Dr. Hendrik Verwoerd, the Prime Minister of South Africa from 1958 until his assassination in 1966. The reverse features a springbok antelope, a national symbol of South Africa.
  • Composition:
  • The 1967 1 Rand coin was made of silver, weighing 15 grams and with a diameter of 32.7 mm.
  • Later Changes:
  • From 1970 to 1990, the coin's size and composition were changed, becoming smaller and made of nickel.
  • Significance:This coin represents a specific period in South African history, marked by the apartheid regime and the leadership of Dr. Verwoer
