Commentary: This very short issue of only one year was the decimalistion transition from 10 shillings to the one rand note before the next governor’s term of office.
This issue continued to have a predominant English/Afrikaans language change every 1 million bank notes so that all odd serial number prefixes had Afrikaans as the top (predominant) language and all even numbered serial number prefixes had English as the predominant language. In some issues, like this first rand issue of Dr M.H. de Kock, finding an English predominant note is for some unknown reason much more difficult. Replacement notes extremely rare – only one seen and commands price of R14500.
Grade: EF
