The illustration on the reverse of this circulating commemorative R2 coin represents Environmental Rights, showing water and a fish, land with plants and the sky with clouds and the sun is seen on the reverse of the coin. According to artist Maaike Bakker, the illustrations on this coin that she designed highlight the idea of a well-balanced, protected environment that is not harmful to the well-being of those inhabiting it. The design was inspired by the countrys great outdoors, access to which is guaranteed by the South African constitution.

To the right, on two lines, the value and denomination 2 RAND. Around below, the inscription environmental rights 1994 · 2019. The typography of the inscription, designed by Garth Walker, unifies the reverses of all coins of the series.

Above the waves on left, in small letters the die-sinker's initials SDN (for SD Naicker).
