You are bidding on the real R5 Proof Coin issued in 1994 depicting the Union Building in Pretoria.
The ordinary R5 circulation commerative are difficult to find because people hoarde them. The proof R5 coins are even more difficult to find because only 10 000 of these were minted and encapsulated. Unlike the millions of similar inauguration commemoratives, the lustre of the proof coin is distinctive - making it the best quality there is.
Some argue this coin with Union Building was the perfect way to honour a hero of Nelson Mandela' stature in that it is perhaps the most beautiful government residence in the world.
It is said that Sir Herbert Baker was the architect of this building and had it built in the English monumental style from light sandstone.
The building's name comes from the time of the South African Union, which was only changed in 1961 to the current name, the Republic of South Africa.
Since the first free and common elections in South Africa in 1994 the Union Building has been the residence of the presidency.
